Firm also confirms a fresh $4 million VC round. Not a bad week.

Midomi is like Shazam, but you sing into the phone to identify the song rather than holding the handset up to a recording. It identifies songs in about five seconds.

The firm claims the app has scored several million downloads since launching at $4.99 three months ago.

やっぱり好評なんですね。
iPod touchにマイクが内蔵されてたら、速攻買うんですが……。

Midomi uses the Sound2Sound search engine to accurately identify music. It can listen to a song being played on the radio and recognize it, just like Shazam. But it can also identify songs that you sing or hum. In addition, you can also just speak a song’s title or an artist’s name into the iPhone’s built-in mic and Midomi will find it. (iPod touch users can tap into these features as well, provided they’ve got an external microphone on hand.) The app also includes a text field where you can type to search.

これはなかなかに良さげ。

Apple Tablet Prototype is Real, Nov. Launch Expected, says Report

Mr. Analyst says Apple is going to have a final design ready in the next six weeks, and the device would then be announced in September for a November launch. The Apple tablet may also break your bank, costing you a whopping $699 to $799. But for those big bucks you'd get a device that would be able to, among other things, play high-definition video. While other features might be nice, it sounds like the Apple tablet's video capability is the feature to beat. The anonymous source says the device's video quality "is better than the average movie experience."

9月に発表で11月に発売。値段は8万円前後。
まだ噂段階ですがここら辺が濃厚な線みたいですね。

tablet

The tablet has Apple’s modus operandi all over it. Just as the iPhone wasn’t the first smartphone, the tablet won’t be the first tablet. But it will be the first tablet that makes sense for the mass market.

What Apple is doing is rethinking the computer for the home. Netbooks, laptops and desktops are machines that were designed for work. Made to sit on desks, they are computers from the productivity era, designed for offices.

With the tablet, Apple will define a new category of home computers that are made for play, not work. The tasks that home users want to perform are already pretty well defined – videoconferencing, watching movies, listening to music.

Apple is making a computer that makes those tasks easy, natural and well, magical.

[読んだ] iPod touch, iPhone 3G explode; Apple demand confidentiality before refund - SlashGear

Cue the usual “Apple’s gadgets are hot property” puns and “so cool they’re burning up” jokes; two Apple devices have reportedly combusted or exploded, with the company allegedly requiring one owner to sign a gagging-agreement before paying out compensation.  In Liverpool, UK, a teenage girl’s iPod touch exploded, having first hissed violently and increased in temperature, while in Leiden, Netherlands, an iPhone 3G caught fire and burnt through a car seat.

The iPod touch first “made a hissing noise” says Ken Stanborough, the father of the PMP’s teenage owner, before “getting hotter in my hand, and I thought I could see vapour”.  After throwing the iPod out of his back door, “within 30 seconds there was a pop, a big puff of smoke and it went 10ft in the air.”  The Dutch iPhone 3G was more contained, being locked inside a car at the time of its combustion; its owner returned to find the car filled with thick black smoke and with considerable damage to the seat the smartphone had been left on.

[読んだ] Seriously, What is Going on with the App Store? Blocks, Delays, and Awful Apps Slipping Through

There's no doubt that Apple is struggling with the large number of apps, the high visibility of their platform, and having to balance their goals with those of their carriers like AT&T. However, the problems, the delays, and, most importantly, their refusal to discuss the issues, is starting to give the company a bad reputation. For now, the souring feelings for Apple are probably just occurring in the developer community and among and tech pundits who watch the company closely. Still, it's already been bad enough for some developers to bow out and for some high-profile tech bloggers to announce they're ditching the iPhone for good.

If Apple can't address these issues in a timely fashion, then maybe it's time for them to lift their cone of silence and say - if not why the issues have happened - then at the very least, "We're Sorry."
